June at the Academe

A Quick Look at the Academe classes coming up next month.

JUNE 1-28, 2026 THE ECONOMICS OF RUNNING A REGENCY HOUSE WITH LOUISA CORNELL

Whether the year is 2026 or 1826, when it comes to running a household there are a number of considerations to be taken no matter how wealthy or how poor said household. The costs of food, of heating, of lighting, of linens, taxes, rent, and dozens of other seemingly trivial things must be the first priority whether the decisions are made by a Bristol housewife today or the mistress of a gentry household between 1780 and 1840.When that household was comprised of a grand home(or two) in the country and/or a house in Town the task of running said household was similar to that of running a small business.

For those then and now who considered women, especially mistresses of wealthier households, ignorant of financial considerations this class will prove enlightening.

In this class we will cover the daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly tasks necessary to the economical running of a variety of Regency era homes. From those responsible for these tasks to the various steps entailed, the budgets required, and the source of household necessities this class will strive to provide attendees with a thorough knowledge of what it took to keep a household functioning and running successfully with an eye to the financial acuity necessary to do so well.
