Class Description
The Regency world was one of both refinement, and every vice that could be found and indulged in. This course will look at some of the less refined entertainments that could be found. We’ll look at the stories of the well-known rakes and hell raisers, and the women who defied conventions. We’ll cover:
- Introduction – The Search for Entertainment
- Gambling – Cards to Dice to Bets on Everything
- Swearing and Slumming It – Adventures with the Lower Classes
- Sexual Escapades – Brothels, Molly Houses, and Pleasure Gardens
- Drink, Dissipations, and Diversions – Taverns, Theaters, Tobacco and More
- Amateur Sporting Adventures – Riding, Driving, Sporting, Boxing, and Cricket
- Country Rests & Cures – Seductions at Spa Towns and Seasides
- Summary – Almost Anything Goes
About the Instructor
