Death & Mourning – Regency Traditions and Oddities

Class Description
The Victorians took mourning and customs around death to new levels—and it is to them that we tend to think of when we look back at the past. But the Regency era was not quite as strict in its customs around death. Situated between Georgians and Victorians, the Regency era has a little of each its traditions around death. This workshop will seek to dispel a few myths—women did sometimes attend funerals—and shed some light on how Regency funerals and attitudes shaped the views, and sometimes the worries, about death and dying.
Over two weeks, we’ll cover:

- Lesson Three: Funeral Furnishing
- Lesson Four: Mourning Customs
- Lesson Five: Memento Mori and Ephemera
- Lesson Six: Dealing with Royal Deaths
About the Instructor
